The Basics
Name: Cassie
Age: 14
Grade/Job: 8th
Family: mother: Michelle, father: Walter
Pets: Many
Race: Human
Class: Animorph
What You See
Cassie isn’t exactly a great beauty. Don’t get me wrng, she’s pretty enough, if you don’t mind your girls covered in animal gunk, wearing ratty old jeans, and mucky boots. She’s not tall, or slender. But she’s not obese either. Her hair is kept short, and she rarely if ever wears makeup.
A compassionate and caring girl, Cassie doesn’t want anyone to suffer, including animals. It sometimes seems she cares more for animals than for people. She’s honest, but she doesn’t want to hurt people’s feelings, which can sometimes put her at odds with herself.

What You Get
With Cassie, what you see is pretty much the same as what you get. She’s a kind, caring person who seems to be able to see into the souls of others, to know how they feel, sometimes when even they don’t know. She doesn’t care much about looks or external appearances; which is probably why her best friend seems to everyone else like the complete opposite of her.
She doesn’t like to lie, and feels terrible about having to do so when she goes on missions. She would like nothing more than to tell her parents that she’s an Animorph, but for obvious reasons, she can’t risk it. She also hates the killing. The conscience of the group, she often wonders if what they are doing is actually for the good, or if the Yeerks could be bargained with, after all, all the ‘evil’ aliens really want is to be able to experience life beyond their pools…maybe…then again, perhaps they really do want to concur the universe.
Cassie is filled with other moral questions too. For instance, since they take control of an animal’s DNA in order to become them, is that really any different from what the Yeerks are doing? She’s reconciled herself to believing that it is, but the question still haunts her from time to time.
Cassie is also the best morpher in the group. Even Ax says so. It’s quite possible that this is because of her natural connection with the animals she becomes, but no one knows for sure.
Things Aren't How They Used to Be
Cassie was born to a pair of nature enthusiasts, Walter and Michelle. One is a wildlife veterinarian, the other works with exotic animals at the local zoo. So naturally Cassie was raised with a love of animals. As she grew up she began to help her father with his work, taking care of sick and injured wildlife in the barn.
Given Cassie’s upbringing she never fit in well with the popular clique-type girls. So it surprised everyone when one of the most beautiful, popular girls in school became her best friend. Rachel and Cassie have been best friends for a very long time now, even if they don’t often see eye to eye. Through Rachel, or perhaps through school, she met Jake, Rachels cousin, and developed a crush on him.
When the Animorphs firstgained their powers, her initial reaction to meeting Elfangor was to try and mend his wounds, but he assured her he was beyond he was beyond help. As the war progressed she became a voice of reason within the group, moralizing and keeping them from crossing blurred lines that may have lead them to becoming more like the enemy they wished to defeat. She also became the groups resident Animal expert, often picking out new morphs for the group to use in order to carry out their missions. Her barn became the primary meeting place for the Animorphs.

The barn was cool and quiet in the early morning, fog rolled over the fields that could be seen from the open door. The animals squawked and cawed and howled in protest to their confinement. And in the middle of it all stood an African American teenager. Her overalls were a size too small, but it didn’t bother her, after all, there was no one else around. And why waste money on new clothes when she was just working in the barn?
Cassie looked around the barn. Even now she could almost visualize her friends sitting on the stacks of straw. It was actually a good thing her friends weren’t over though…it meant a normal weekend for once; a chance to spend time on her schoolwork and her chores. Which is what she was doing just then. Moving to the cupboard where her father stored the medicine for the sick animals she retrieved a small vial of pills, they were marked as being for a gray fox that had recently come in injured.
Once the pills had been attained, she made her way back into the main barn. The fox, whose hind paw was in a cast after having been clipped by a car, was gnawing at the bars of his cage, occasionally stopping to yip loudly, demanding to be released.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be better in no time.” Cassie cooed to the upset creature. She pulled on a pair of thick, elbow length, leather gloves, preparing to give the animal it’s medicine. The pill was an antibiotic to prevent infection, for the fox’s leg had not only been broken, but the bone had pierced the skin, leaving a nasty wound, “just take your medicine.”
Despite her encouragement, the fox did not want the pill. She had to pry the creature’s mouth open, place the pill on his tongue, and then hold it’s jaws shut until he swallowed. But she still had a much easier time of it that some others would have. It was a gift, she was good with animals. And she knew it was part of what made her an asset to the team.
